Making Historical Bronze Age Arrowheads
Bronze is made by melting copper and tin together to create a new alloy that is very hard and durable. For this project, we are using a mix of 88% copper, 11% tin, and 1% zinc. This roughly matches many historical bronze items from the ancient world.
In this project we will be making some historical reproductions of various ancient bronze age arrowheads and a small knife blade. |
We carved the forms of the arrowheads in wood. We then used the wooden models to create the molds by pressing them into a sand/oil mixture held in a coffee can These are very simple press molds. Just press the object you wish to cast into the sand and then pull it back out, creating a very simple mold.
